The first step of moving into the future is letting go of the past. It's the key to home downsizing too. Downsizers usually fall into one of the following three categories: (1) empy nesters moving to more freedom and less stress, (2) adult children moving a parent for a myriad of reasons--usually difficult--or (3) a person going through a divorce. Then there's the the ecstatic, though apprehensive, downsizer we all hope to be. This downsizer relishes the thought of letting go of the physical weight and responsibility of the long time family home and moving on to more freedom and less stress.
I've downsized three times myself for reasons having to do with husbands...two divorces and a death. Though I say it lightly, my downsize experiences were anything but light. The grueling emotional circumstances kept me in a fog leaving preparation unobtainable. The important step that I missed was eliminating all the furniture, books, etc that wouldn't fit into the new house. Without thorough preparation, a smooth move is impossible. Boxes were strewn willy nilly throughout the new house taking weeks to unpack and much longer to organize. How could you benefit from my debacle? I offer compassion and experience that you'll be hard pressed to find anywhere else.
I can make your downsizing or organizing experience smooth and easy. I wish I had known about professional downsizers and organizers with all three of my moves. It would have changed years of my life by making the most trying times infinitely easier.
